Family Fun Friday

Posted on Jun 13, 2013

I am so thankful that I have a co-host for Family Fun Friday.  Diane at My Life As Robin’s Wife is the primary host this week as my family has been evacuated from our home in Colorado due to a fire that started in our neighborhood.  If you’d like to see the features and the regular blog post for Family Fun Friday please visit Diane’s blog.

Our home is in a heavily wooded area. As of right now over 360 structures (mostly primary residences) and 15,000+ acres have burned & are still burning. People are seeking refuge at shelters and churches in our town.  I started Family Fun Friday to place a focus on family and NOW my life is TRULY focused on family.  I cling to my husband and two boys and thank God for our safety.  I am so thankful for the family members we are staying with as we watch the news cover the growth of the fire with images of smoke and homes burned to the ground.  Please keep Colorado in your prayers – that the firefighters and police and community workers can get the flames out and that people’s lives are spared.

If you don’t have anything planned this weekend – make sure to hug the people you love a little tighter and give thanks to God for every minute with your family.  They are truly God’s greatest gift to each of us.  Be blessed this weekend and thank you for your prayers.  Thank you for being a part of Family Fun Friday and the Happy and Blessed Home Community.

Monica

Behind the Scenes on my Blog

Posted on Jun 10, 2013

behind-the-scences-button

I wanted to take some time to let you a know a little about what is going on “behind the scenes” on my blog.

A short video to tell you “in person” about what is going on “behind the scenes.

I’ve written my first book titled, “Preparing for, and Adapting to Life with Baby.”  I was inspired by my beautiful pregnant sister, Tina, who is due any day now to write the book.  We’ve spent hours on the phone and I’ve answered all her questions about what it’s like to be a first time mom.  I’ve included all I’ve learned from being a mom as well as a ton of helpful links, tools and resources in the book to help new moms.  The book is in the editing process right now and I’m still developing a launch team and a marketing plan to launch it.  Woo-hoo!  I’m super excited and I can’t wait to share it will all of you.  The only disadvantage is that it takes time, and it may take some time away from my blogging while I work on the launch.

I’ve also been working on developing a newsletter for this blog.  I would so LOVE to hear from you about how you would like to be contacted. Would you prefer:

  1. Stay as is – meaning you will receive a feedburner e-mail every time there is a new post.
  2. Newsletter format with an e-mail each time I post – this would likely include a picture, headline, and about 50 words of text each time I post. OR
  3. Weekly newsletter format – this would be a weekly e-mail that would include all of the blog posts from the week in a short format – just a picture, headline, some text describing the post and you could choose which post to visit.

If you could leave a comment on how you would would like to be contacted I would be so appreciative.  You can also click here: “Contact Me” and send me a quick note with your answer. Your feedback is very important to me and will help me plan which avenue I pursue.

Summertime is fun time for our family which means some travel for us.  So my posting may not be as regular or on the same days as it’s been in the past few months.  I expect everything to return to the regular routine in August – my video devotional for moms may take a backseat until then.  I still plan to post but I want to leave plenty of flexibility for time with family during these summer months.  I’ve asked some guest bloggers to contribute to my blog (as a benefit to my readers) and I think they’ve got some wonderful information for you, so you may see a few guest posts over the next few months as well.

I hope to also start bringing back some of the family updates with fun pics of the boys and the ways we’re learning in our preschool adventures.  I think you’ll enjoy those experiences with us.

I’ll continue to post over the next few months with an emphasis on preschooler tools, preschooler crafts and Family Fun Friday will continue.  In addition, I hope to add some posts about babies – since my niece is due any day now and I’ve got BABY on the BRAIN! ;-)

The blog and new book are keeping me busy, and I want to ensure a quality experience for my readers.  This post is just for you my beloved readers so please let me know your what method of contacting you works best (number 1, 2, or 3)  either with a comment on this post or by contacting me directly via my “Contact Me” page.

Thanks for letting me share with you a little about what is going on “behind the scenes”.  I hope you are enjoying some summertime fun! I look forward to hearing from you.

In His Grip,

Monica

Preschool Book Box – “Five Wishing Stars”

Posted on Jun 8, 2013

One of our family’s favorite activities is reading stories together.  I have two young boys ages three and one, and sometimes it’s challenging to get them to both sit still. One of the ways I’ve been able to capture their attention is through book boxes.  A book box can be a shoe box or any other box that you can use to create a hands-on story.

I enjoy illustrating animals and creating activities that make learning memorable and fun for my preschooler so creating a book box is not only fun but relatively easy to do.  If you would like to create an animated story time for your little ones, I’ve created FREE printables you can use to create this “Five Wishing Stars” book box at home.  I’m guest posting this project over at Cheerios and Lattes on Saturday, June 8.  You can read the full post here: Five Wishing Stars at Cheerios and Lattes.  On Mackenzie’s blog, Cheerios and Lattes, you’ll find all sorts of great stuff – cleaning tips, giveaways, recipes, crafts and more.

The “Five Wishing Stars” story is about five sheep who wish for various objects on their wishing stars. The last sheep wishes a good night’s sleep for all the other sheep. It’s a perfect bedtime book and is a favorite in our home. The printables and tutorial are FREE.  I hope they are a blessing to you and your family.
