We are our preschool alphabet and E is for elbow and excellent fun! This time I didn’t have enough for a sensory bin, so I collected some plastic eggs, a stuffed elephant, a video of Elmo and at the last moment I threw in some pasta elbows.
You know what became the biggest hit? The elbows!
Peanut was drawn to the elbows right away. He loved shaking the box and enjoyed the sounds it made. I don’t normally let him take anything out of the pantry so getting to play with a box of real pasta was quite thrilling for him. Who needs toys?
For this letter I also had to do a little drawing. I drew a face and pointers to the ears and eyes; and I drew an elbow (body part). Eight years of art classes are being put to good use.
Again, using magnets I wrote down some words including elephant, elf, and earth. The last two words were new to our little man.
Here’s a video of us discussing the letter “E”. (Click this link if you are viewing this in a reader.)
Then I had a brainstorm, why not do a craft with the elbow-shaped pasta? So I got some glue and we made the letter “E” using pasta and glue. It was a little messy but well worth it. You can download these free printables from 1plus1plus1equals1.com

After the glue dried, we painted the pasta using non-toxic, washable poster paints. This was my little man’s first time using real paint and not the dot paints and he didn’t want to stop painting (and still wants to paint all the time.)
Another highlight, our baby “Nugget” made some small attempts at crawling. It’s so exciting to see him taking the initiative to get around. He loves to watch his big brother and I know he can’t wait to get in on the action.
I captured some of Nugget’s new moves here:
For me, “E” is for exhortation. I rejoice in my precious time with these two treasures.
[ Final Exhortations ] Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
I pray you have enjoyed our update on the letter “E.”
In His Grip,
Monica
