This Christmas, would you like to give a gift that could change someone’s life forever? Did you know that you can give the gift of life? Through Compassion’s Child Survival Program you can make the difference between life and no life at all, by helping mothers and babies this Christmas. Compassion is a ministry that is known for it’s child sponsorship program. But the ministry also offers the opportunity to help impoverished women and children all over the world in so many ways. I am a Compassion blogger and though I don’t write about it very often, I’d like to tell you a little about the ministry and give you some ideas on ways to get involved.
One of the ways that we’ve focused on the true meaning of Christmas this year is to look through the Compassion Christmas Catalog together as a family. My three-year-old and my little one-year-old loved the Compassion video on babies. I love how the video features cute adorable babies and a woman explaining how Compassion helps these mothers and babies through the Child Survival Program and how you can help.
This blog post links directly to the Child Survival Program of Compassion’s Christmas Gift Catalog because that is where we are donating as a family this year. You can watch the baby video from Compassion Child Survival Page. But if you’d like to look at even more options for giving, be sure to click on the entire Compassion Christmas Catalog.
There are tons of ways to contribute to Compassion programs. They range from something as simple as giving a one time gift and donating a newborn care package for a mother and baby, or you can sponsor a child and build a relationship for a lifetime. There are so many choices. Each donation is tax deductible. If you are looking for a worthy cause, please consider Compassion. More than most other non-profits, 84% of every dollar goes directly to the program you choose.
My husband and I had the privilege of traveling to Nicaragua a few years ago to meet our sponsored child. We were impressed by the integrity of the staff of Compassion as well as the kindness and generosity of the volunteer contributors. Compassion is a child development program and they are seeking to release children (and even generations) from the cycle of poverty through not only nourishment and medical care, but also through education and vocational training. Their approach to healing and restoration is physical, emotional, and spiritual as they partner with local churches to spread the love of Jesus to these needy orphans and families.
Compassion graduates have gone on to earn college degrees and have become doctors, lawyers, church leaders, and even politicians in their own communities. They seek to change the world for good, but change takes time, energy, and support – and these communities can use our help. We have the opportunity to give hope this Christmas.
If you are a parent, Compassion has some free resources to help you teach your child about other cultures. Two free resources can be found here: Explorer Magazine and Quest for Compassion – Games. I think you’ll enjoy these resources and find them to be helpful.
From our family to yours, Merry Christmas! Thanks for following us at HappyandBlessedHome.com and thanks for considering Compassion in your gift-giving plans.
