We have a birthday party coming up and we’re celebrating a special someone who is turning two. His absolute favorite character is Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. We already own three Cookie Monsters and we subscribe to Sesame Street on Youtube {it’s a great way to watch Sesame Street ad free}. Sesame Street is a regular part of our family’s routine and my boys love all the fun adventures of the Sesame Street characters. My eldest just received a “Big Hugs Elmo” for Christmas that he absolutely loves. I’ve included affiliate links here for your convenience.

Last year I created decorations for my eldest for his Mickey Mouse Clubhouse themed birthday party (including a Mickey Mouse Cake), and this week I’m busy crafting, cooking and decorating all around a Sesame Street and Cookie Monster theme.
To create my decorations I was able to find some images online that can be used for creating decorations and themes. As a mom with an almost-two-year-old ready to celebrate a birthday I was so thankful to find the characters to create these birthday party decorations. If you are planning a Sesame Street Birthday Party and you need pictures of the Sesame Street characters or faces, you can find many of the images I used for our party below.

Since I’m a busy mom and I know how it can be hard to find decorations {especially decorations for FREE} I’m attaching a PDF file complete with three birthday signs {just fill in your child’s name and age}, many of the Sesame Street characters that can easily be printed and laminated for decor, cupcake toppers, decals for favor bags, and more. It’s what I’m using for our party and I don’t mind sharing it with other parents who need some free decor for their child’s birthday party.

I made the sides of Elmo chocolate – it gave the cake a nice flavor and contrast.
Sesame Street Party Decorating Ideas
Our home is a great-room so decorating one room means decorating all three. We decorated the dining room, breakfast area, and kitchen island for the party. The character cupcakes turned out great and added a fun element to the party. I used coconut flakes mixed in with the icicing to create a “furry” look.
We decorated our Melissa and Doug puppet theatre as a Sesame Street photo booth.
We had lots of fun party hats, and a fun Sesame Street character centerpiece for the party.
We had to serve cookies for the cookie monster’s invited to the party!
The characters on our windows are from the printable pack you can download in this post.
We gave out simple brown paper sacks with Thank you cards to the kids who came to the party. Sacks included extra cookies.
The kids loved seeing all the fun Sesame Street characters like Bid Bird, Ernie, Cookie Monster, Elmo, and Burt.
