I’m participating in 100 Days of Sensory Play with a group of bloggers from the Kid Blogger Network. We’re sharing on our blogs some great ideas for children in 6 categories including tactile, vestibular, proprioceptive, visual, auditory and olfactory sensory processing.
Preschool Game
Today I’m sharing a fun activity for proprioceptive sensory play. From Wikipedia, Proprioception means “one’s own”, “individual” and perception, and is the sense of the relative position of neighbouring parts of the body and strength of effort being employed in movement.[1]
FREE Preschool Game
One super-fun way to engage your child’s proprioceptive senses is to print out the attached free printable jumping beans game and lay your jumping beans out on the floor. You can do any variation you like with this game, you can put numbers on the bellies of the Jumping Beans and ask your preschooler to go from one number to another or you could use alphabet letters, or you could do like we did and have your child move from one color to another. It’s great for building recognition of letters, numbers, colors, shapes, whatever you like.

If you’d like to save on printer ink, you may like the original hand-drawn jumping beans I’ve created and linked here: jumping beans. I printed the original jumping beans game on colored construction paper.
I love how games like this inspire curiosity. Peanut even tried to explain to Nugget how the game worked. I got him to pause for a moment so I could snap this quick picture of the boys.
If you’re able to use the “Jumping Beans Game” to have fun with your preschooler I’d love to hear about it. Please leave a comment in the comment box below.
