I’m continuing our one word devotional series until I make it through the entire alphabet. I started with the letter “R”. I pray these devotionals are a blessing to you. I just want to speak some encouraging words to anyone reading this blog and to my mom friends.
Our letter for the week is “A” and our word for the week is Audience. Not a typical word you hear in devotionals but once you hear why I chose this word I think you’ll understand why.
au·di·ence n. {source: Free Online Dictionary}
1. a. The spectators or listeners assembled at a performance, for example, or attracted by a radio or television program.
One of my favorite songs is one titled “Audience of One” written by Big Daddy Weave. They write and sing about God and how He is our ultimate audience. I find it to be of great comfort to know that for all my hard work, for all my failures, for all the things I do as a part of this mommy-hood journey, my audience is ONE.
Now, I don’t forget the ones that I love. Little eyes who are watching me and learning from me, or the heart of my husband who trusts in me, or the treasured relationships I have with family and friends. They are never far from my mind because I love them so much.
But when I make a mistake, when I fall short of someone’s expectations (sometimes even my own), or even when I do something that could earn a standing ovation… well, I dedicate it to my “Audience of One.”
A short video to encourage you: Audience
The bible tells us that God is omnipresent – He is with us everywhere. I find security in knowing that God will walk with me through every high and every low.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you (Isaiah 43:2).
Hebrews also speaks of His presence:
For he himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).
I hope you’ll join me this week in thinking about our Audience of One and taking comfort in the knowledge that He sees, and that He is always there for us to lean on, turn to, and rejoice with.
I pray this devotional series is a blessing to you. If you are enjoying the series I’d love to hear from you in the comments. Have a wonderful week filled with the joy of His presence!

Lyrics quoted in this post:
I come on my knees to lay down before You
Bringing all that I am, longing only to know You
Seeking Your face, and not only Your hand
I find You embracing me just as I am
And I lift these songs to You and You alone
As I sing to You in my praises make Your home
To my audience of one, You are Father, and You are Son
As Your Spirit flows free, let it find within me
A heart that beats to praise You
And now just to know You more has become my great reward
To see Your kingdom come and Your will be done
I only desire to be Yours, Lord
