Easy Vegetarian Crescent Ring Recipe and Party Appetizer
This year we’re hosting my family for Christmas. It’s exciting and a bit challenging. In addition to the four folks in our family, I’m counting on another four hearty eaters. Plus, I anticipate my husband’s side of the family will also visit. It easily doubles the adults and nearly triples the kiddos. We are incredibly thankful to enjoy the holidays with our loved ones and are more than happy to keep everyone’s tummies full and fed. I’d cook for an army if it means I get to see my family.
So what do I prepare for holiday guests? So glad you asked. In addition to the casserole and crockpot dishes I’ve written about, I love to serve up options for the vegetarians in the family. More specifically, this Easy Vegetarian Crescent Ring Recipe and Party Appetizer. Now, don’t be fooled, just because it’s a vegetarian dish, doesn’t mean it’s wimpy. Honestly, you should taste is to believe it. This thing is packed with protein. I’ll tell you more about how awesome this is as I explain the recipe. Even my meat-eating husband loves this dish.
When you have activities planned with children and grandparents, aunts and uncles, making crescent rings is an easy way to save time in the kitchen. Why? Because this Easy Vegetarian Crescent Ring Recipe and Party Appetizer makes oodles of food which means you can cook once and eat twice, or feed the masses all at once if needed.
This crescent ring recipe is a great option for all holiday parties, family gatherings, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve meals and parties.

Directions for an Easy Vegetarian Crescent Ring Recipe and Party Appetizer
I find that if I gather up my ingredients and set them in front of me, it makes for easy cooking and assembly.
Step 1: Prep the vegetables. Start with the veggies. I washed and chopped up the veggies. This includes the onion, bell pepper, broccoli, and spinach.
Step 2: Preheat the over to 375 degrees.
Step 3: Heat 3 pats of butter in a frying pan on medium high heat.
Step 4: Cook the veggies. Start with the onions, cook for two to three minutes until softened and then add the broccoli, red bell pepper and spinach and cover. Cook on medium high heat for five minutes, stirring to ensure veggies are not burned. Need a little extra visualization? Here’s a handy YouTube video tutorial.
Step 5: Push veggies to the side and drop one to two pats of butter into the center of the pan. Pour one bag of MorningStar Farms® Grillers® Crumbles™ into the pan. You do not need to defrost. These crumbles contain 75% less fat than regular ground beef, and have 9 grams of protein. You can go straight from frozen.
Step 6: Add a bag of MorningStar Farms® Steak Strips and the garlic salt, stir to combine. Cover and cook for six to eight minutes or until the steak strips are completely defrosted. Stir every one to two minutes. The steak strips will cut with a spatula – that’s how you’ll know it’s ready.
Step 7: Add the 2 lb. bag of mozzarella cheese. Cheese acts as a binding agent. You can opt to use any flavor of cheese that you like. I just love the melting power and flavor of mozzarella cheese.
Step 8: Take a pizza stone and lay a sheet of parchment paper over it. Open the crescent rolls and separate them into triangles. Overlapping the widest part of the triangle, make a circle like a sun around the outer edge of the pizza stone. Use your hands to create a platform for the filling by pressing the crescent rolls together at the inner ends. The outermost part of the triangle will extend outward from the center creating the appearance of a giant star.
Step 9: Stack the filling. Using a spoon or spatula, shovel out filling onto the circle created by the crescent triangles that overlap one another. Be careful to stay on top of the dough.
Step 10. Wrap the triangle ends. Wrap the triangle ends at an angle inward and attach them to the inside dough center of the ring. Press and create a seal that allows the dough to wrap around the filling creating a circular pocket of dough around the veggie and cheese filling.
Step 11: Bake the crescent ring. Bake at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Turn the ring around in the oven halfway through cooking. Keep an eye on the dough so it does not burn.
Step 12: Decorate. I cut toothpicks and large green grapes in half to decorate the Christmas Wreath Crescent Ring. I also used grape tomatoes. I used 20 of each. I layered the tish with green leaf lettuce to create an edible Christmas Wreath – perfect for holiday entertaining!
