My goal with these one word devotionals is to inspire and encourage others as they walk through each week in their role as moms. My hope is to take the complete series and create an eBook that will be offered for free on my site. We’re halfway through the series with this post.
I also hope this series will help you get to know me as a blogger, what I believe and where I’m coming from. Thank you for joining me as I seek to encourage women, and in a way, hone my voice as a woman. If a particular post speaks to you, I would so love to hear from you in the comments.
We’re on a one word devotional for encouraging moms and our word for the week is “Faith”. This devotional runs deep, but faith is such an important part of my soul, I felt it needed to be included in these one word devotionals.
My faith in God has helped me through some extremely difficult trials in my life. I wrote about some of those trials in my post “Cancer and Sin” and you can learn more about my trials in my post about “Selecting a Spouse.”
What has strengthened me and helped me to overcome behavior that was personally damaging has been to read my bible and get plugged into a small group of women to pray with and encourage each other. I encourage you to get plugged in with some Godly Christian women to help bolster and encourage you in your faith.
Hebrews 11:1, New International Version (NIV)
1. confidence or trust in a person or thing: faith in another’s ability.
2. belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.
3. belief in God or in the doctrines or teachings of religion: the firm faith of the Pilgrims.
4. belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit, etc.: to be of the same faith with someone concerning honesty.
5. a system of religious belief: the Christian faith; the Jewish faith.
A short video to encourage you with the word “Faith”
To me, faith is – “Trust in God.”
And now, as a new mom, I realize the even greater significance of my faith, I want to pass it on to my children. I want them to have this same source of nourishment for their souls. God’s word is a well-spring that never runs dry, and can walk them through life’s greatest difficulties.
John 15:4 tells us to “abide in Him.”
We need to take up residence close the author of our faith and let Him help us through every circumstance.
How do we increase our faith?
1. Read God’s Word
2. Spend time in Prayer
3. Build relationships with friends who will pray for us and encourage us in our faith
Whenever possible it has helped me tremendously to have a female mentor or friend to come alongside me and help me through my trials – a physical representation of God’s love for me through a sister believer. At the toughest times of my life I prayed for women like this and somehow there was always one there to help me during my time of greatest need.
Currently I am walking out my life as a mom with some treasured girlfriends who are also moms. We are currently doing a book study on “Desperate” and we are loving the book. Thank you ladies for pouring into my life and lifting me up when I need it.
Faith has meant that even at my lowest low, when everything else was stripped away, I relied upon my personal relationship with Jesus Christ to get me through. I have faith that God loves me and wants the best for me and that He has a plan for my life with a hope and a future in it.
My faith has been a constant source of refreshment and renewal for me and I hope it is the same for you. That’s our inspiring word for the week, “Faith.”
May you be strengthened in your faith.
In His Grip,
