It’s still winter out here in the Rockies but we regularly get days of sunshine. Last Sunday afternoon the weather was sunny but chilly. I wanted to get the boys outside for some exploration so I created a FREE Scavenger Hunt Printable for Kids. We talked about the objects on our list and I promised the boys that successful hunters always celebrate with a tasty snack. I knew that Walmart would be an easy one stop solution for everything we needed.
5 Tips for a Successful Scavenger Hunt
- Wear the right gear. I outfitted the boys in long johns under their clothes and warm jackets.
- Use a net or have a set space for collecting scavenger hunt items.
- Some items do not have to be collected. Our “bird” was something to look for and once found, the boys just circled the picture of the bird on our list with a crayon.
- Use the FREE Scavenger Hunt Printable for Kids to locate easy to find items and signs of spring.
- Every hunt deserves a snack afterwards. Serve up some tasty Goldfish® Crackers and fresh fruit to keep kids nourished and energized up for their day.

Scavenger Hunt Success
My youngest found snow first and immediately placed it in his net.
Thankfully the net was strong enough to hold the snow and a pinecone.
My eldest found a walking stick and scanned the ground for pinecones and pine boughs.
It did not take long to complete our scavenger hunt. The hardest thing to find were the birds! We completed our successful scavenger hunt by circling all of our found items and breaking for a tasty snack.
My boys love fresh fruit and Goldfish® Crackers. It’s “The Snack That Smiles Back®”. So I served up our crew with a few snacks on our outdoor picnic table. Afterwards, we went inside for some hot cocoa.
Where to find Goldfish® Crackers
