Do your kids love sweet treats the way that mine do? I don’t mind my kids eating a sweet treat now and then, but I’m always looking for ways to sneak more fiber and protein into their diets. Our family loves the flavors of cereal and honey, but I need a treat that also packs in some protein. The solution: Cheerios Energy Bites!
Now, you can use any form of nut butter or a nut butter alternative in this recipe. Two I recommend include soy nut butters and or sunflower seed nut butters. But our family LOVES peanut butter so that is what I used to create these energy bites.
I styled this recipe after two of our favorite flavors, chocolate, and peanut butter, but you can opt to omit the chocolate and add dried fruits or nuts or other savory morsels.
The key is to completely mix the honey and peanut butter first. And you need an ingredient that cuts down on the stickiness – that is where the flaxseed comes in. I used a handheld immersion blender to do this, but with a bit of exertion and a fork, you can accomplish the same task. Overall you can choose any type of cereal, but my kids enjoy Honey Nut Cheerios™. So the example I’m using here is a Cheerios Ball or Cheerios Energy Bites Recipe. Basically, you can whip together all the ingredients and add just one cup of your kids’ favorite cereal and voila’ – an Energy Bites Recipe that Kids Love.

Essential for after-school or on-the-go snacking and great for parents with kids enrolled in sports needing a quick snack after practice. So with our further delay, here is a quick tutorial on How to Make an Energy Bites Recipe that Kids Love.
How to Make an Energy Bites Recipe that Kids Love
Step 1: Gather all the ingredients for this no-bake easy recipe. Sub out your favorite cereal into the mix to create an energy bite option that your kids love.
Step 2: Follow the recipe instructions to mix your concoction.
Step 3: Roll the energy bites and place them on parchment paper for quick and easy eating. Store any unused portion in a ziplock bag. Refrigerate for up to two weeks.
Ingredients for no-bake Cheerios Energy Bites
- 1 cup Honey Nut Cheerios™ cereal
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup milk chocolate chip morsels
- 1/2 cup ground flax seed
- 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Step 1: Gather ingredients. Pre-measure all your ingredients into bowls to make it easy to combine.
Step 2: Mix the wet ingredients first. If you have one, a handheld immersion blender comes in handy for mixing the peanut butter, honey, and vanilla. Mix these first to ensure an even taste.
Step 3: Add the dry ingredients. When adding dry ingredients I go from largest to smallest. The purpose of the flax seed is two-fold. It adds heavenly fiber, but it also cuts down on stickiness. If it seems to stop mixing in, stop adding it and cut off the addition of it right where you are at when mixing. Since it’s the last thing to go in, add it slowly and see what it does to the mix.
Step 4: Roll into 1″ – 2″ balls. Use your spoon or spatula to scoop out small chunks of the mix and gently roll the mixture into balls approximately 1 1/2″ in diameter. You can use parchment paper to keep them separated. Store them in an air tight container in the fridge for a week, or freeze them for up to three months in the freezer. You can take these out in the morning and by lunch, they’ll be defrosted and ready to eat. This recipe yields approximately 12 Cheerios Energy Bites.
