Preschool at Home with Help from a Teacher Certified in Early Childhood Education
Hi, I’m Monica, an Early Childhood Education Certified Teacher. I have a passion for helping other moms and teachers with their preschool at home efforts. Now I teach other moms how to preschool at home with fun preschool activities through my online preschool program: Visual Montessori.
I spent over five years developing a preschool learning curriculum for my two boys and I used the principles of Montessori, and everything I’ve learned about childhood development, to create a preschool learning curriculum based upon the 12 Sensitive Periods for children between the ages of birth and six years old as outlined in Montessori.

Learn to Read Preschool Alphabet Letter Y
This series is ideal for parents who have a preschooler who knows their ABCs and who has expressed an interest in reading. We’re on a journey to learn to read short words from either the list of Dolch sight words, or short words that are easily represented with pictures. If you would like to assess your preschooler’s readiness in the area of reading, I have a free chart in my post, Advancing Preschool Reading Behaviors.
To get ready for each week I do some online research, and review tips from the books I’ve read. I also spend some time on Pinterest looking for things that might be good for our letter activities for the week. I pin everything that looks interesting. My goal is to create a PINTEREST board for each letter of the alphabet. Follow me on Pinterest if you want to get copied on all the resources and ideas that I discover via Pinterest.

You can create the letter “Y” with balls of yarn. The coloring pages can be colored with paint, sponges, q-tips, markers, foam stamps, cotton balls, fruit or vegetable stamps, markers, crayons, or colored pencils. Feel free to add baking soda with vinegar to the mix or sand or glitter or whatever you want to create more texture. I’ve also included a puppet and puzzle craft with a yak.

Preschool Circle Time Morning Board
A preschool Morning Board is a great way to start a preschool day. I like to use is as a visual guide for the day and it helps me walk my preschoolers through some basics – reading a calendar, telling time, and more. We start our day at least two days a week with the Preschool Circle Time Morning Board. For a complete list of our morning board printables click here: Morning Board.
Teach Character in your Preschool
To supplement our letter Y activities for the week, I also use God’s Little Explorers. Our letter Y coincides with week 23 in GLE. In God’s Little Explorer’s the bible story for the week of letter Y study is the story of Jesus and the little children. In the story Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me…” —Matthew 19:14 NIV. My favorite activity (used to emphasize the story) is one where you teach children about themselves. The focus is on the words “you” and “your” and crafts and exercises focus on our bodies and bones. Stacie has some wonderful ideas. Click here to learn more about God’s Little Explorers.
