Growing up fast! |
Nine hours of blessed sleep
One of the tools we’ve used with our little ones is a book called “Baby Wise.” The basic tenant of the book is that as parents we can help our children achieve better sleep by establishing a routine. Even if you do not agree with everything in the book, I can say firsthand that my children like having a routine – they are more content and fuss less when then can anticipate what to expect next during our day.
This has been a blessed morning. Our little infant slept from 9 PM to 6 AM with no crying or fussing. Mommy feels like a new woman. I’ve been trying to follow “Baby Wise” but a little advice from a friend helped me to start his morning feeding at six with a nap till 9 AM and lengthen his afternoon nap which I think has helped him sleep through the night. It seems that in order to make it through the night he has to sleep enough during the day. Nursing approx. every three hours also helps. My friend is using “Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child” which I haven’t read but that I’ve heard from other moms is a good book and is similar to “Baby Wise.” I hope this becomes his new pattern and that he is able to consistently sleep through the night. His new crib arrives in about a week and I’m looking forward to helping him acclimate to sleeping in it.
This journey to better sleep makes me think of the Psalm below. This is the first time I’ve noticed that the Psalm mentions sleep followed with an exhortation about children being a reward. Maybe the Psalmist wanted to encourage parents who are losing sleep that it is for a good cause and a reward from God.
Praying you’re enjoying good sleep.
