We’re journeying through the alphabet and today our preschool alphabet games included building a ladder as a part of our study of the letter “L.” Peanut is 32 months and we are linking up with http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.net/tag/tot%20school/.
For our ladder building we did nothing fancy, just some popsicle sticks and some wood craft glue for this project.
Here you can watch Peanut attempt to glue together his ladder. Ladder Assembly.
For the magnet board I used flashcards for lights, lady bugs, leaf, log, lemon, and lion. I had to draw a ladder. I also created a coloring page of leaves that you can print here: Leaf Sheet. We reviewed letter “L” vocabulary that you can watch here: Vocabulary Review.
Peanut’s Lion and little Lamb participated in the fun by sitting in the chair close by. Some great letter “L” books:
“I love you through and through” by Rossetti-Shustak/Church
“Five Little Ladybugs” by Gerth
“I Love you So” by Marianne Richmond
“Peek-A-Zoo!” by Cimarusti Peterson – it has a lion inside that roars
Alphabet books like “Eating the Alphabet” by Ehlert and “A is for Apple” by Tiger Tales are also good for reviewing the entire alphabet.
To add to the sounds in our lesson, we incorporated our new Alphabet Sound Puzzle by Melissa and Doug. I think it’s perfect for many reasons. It is interactive and self-correcting. Peanut will better learn the shapes of the letters by having to insert the matching letter into it’s puzzle slot. Each piece also reveals a picture behind the letter with an item that starts with the letter.
For instance, behind the letter “A” you’ll find a bunch of apples. The board sounds out the letter name and the items behind the letter. The board does not sound out any phonetic sounds – just the names of the letters. But it’s excellent for problem solving and shape recognition. Even Nugget enjoyed our new Alphabet Board. Video below.
For me, the letter “L” brings to mind my love for these two little blessing who have been entrusted to me in this life. What an amazing and awesome thing to know that God loves you and He loves me as much as I love these two little ones.
Romans 8:38-39, (NIV)
38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Praying that you feel the power of His presence and the depth of His love.
Thank you for joining us on our journey through the alphabet.
In His Grip,
Monica
