Scented Play doh Fun
This is a simple and easy recipe to create play doh at home without cream of tartar. It’s also cook-free. The Red Velvet Chocolate emulsion makes for extra-sensory Valentine’s Day themed Play by adding a slight scent to the doh. I also added candies and cookie cutters to enhance our Valentine’s Day experience for the boys.
Red Velvet Chocolate Themed Sensory Doh
This is an easy recipe. Creating this play doh led to hours of fun for my two preschoolers. I highly recommend sensory play for young children. It’s great for brain development and a wonderful way to engage them in fine motor skill play.

4 – cups of flour
1 and 1/2 – cups of salt

Directions to Create Red Velvet Chocolate Themed Sensory Doh
Step 1: Mix all dry ingredients together in one large pot or mixing bowl.
Step 2: Mix 1 cup of the water together with all the other “wet” ingredients in a separate bowl.
Step 3: Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients and mix throughly.
Step 4: Add the last 1/2 cup of water slowly until you get a pliable mixture. Do not over water. You may not need the entire 1/2 cup. Feel free to add even more water if needed – the mix may need to be altered based upon climate and humidity.
Here you can see my two little “helpers” watching as I mix the doh.

I let the boys squish and mix the doh in a mixing bowl and pot so they could feel like they helped “make” the doh.
We used rollers, cookie cutters, and a heart-stamping punch to create our Valentine’s Day themed play doh creations. The boys played with this doh for hours.
Mashing, piecing together pieces, and mixing are all a part of the fun.
If your doh gets a little dry, just add water and massage the doh back to a pliable state. Make sure to store it in a zip lock bag when not in use.
We decorated some of our Valentine’s Day play doh cut-outs with Valentine’s Day candies.
