Do you have a superhero lover in your home? We have four of them! Our family loves Superman. He is the greatest superhero of all time. So naturally, our family hosted a Superman birthday party for our eldest son for his fifth birthday this year.
I wanted this to be a fun and outgoing Superman party so I researched and found some fabulous party decor online and I made my own Superman Birthday Cake. I used my recipe for Chocolate Cake and I rolled a marshmallow fondant to decorate it. It’s not that difficult and it saved me having to pay a professional. I love saving money on birthday parties!

Since this party was for my five year old son, we talked about what he would most like to have at his party. He loves Superman glasses, toys, pizza, lollipops, and Kryptonite. Our family enjoys watching Superman on Amazon Prime since we do not have cable TV. Superman Themed Party Decorations
I decided to go with Superman themed colors like red, blue, and yellow – with a touch of green for our birthday party decorations. And I added some fun Superman signage and party printables for a little extra party fun. The napkin ring holders, “pow” explosion toppers, and “S” stickers and emblems are available in my store – more details below.

The printable pack also includes Superman “S” for the chest and Superman pants to create fun party decorations or favor bags. We filled our favor bags with inexpensive toys and candy for the kids.

Superhero Themed Party Food
I made some easy Superman pizzas using pre-made pizza pastry crust from the refrigerated section of the grocery store. I laid out the pizza sauce, cheese and pepperoni toppings in a big “S” and trimmed the pizza crust into the shape of a Superman shield just before I baked it.
To balance out our sweets, I served up easy spiral wraps created with ham, cheese, spinach and cream cheese. For a salty snack I served Bugles from the bag. And for guests who love healthy fresh fare, I served up superhero themed fruit in red, blue and yellow. This included fresh blueberries, strawberries, and pineapple.
I also created some superhero power packed gelatin snacks and labeled them with some fun superhero themed printables. The yellow gelatin with a red “S” took a little longer. I used a candy mold and gelled the red gelatin before adding the secondary layer of yellow.
Superhero Themed Party Fun
I wanted to keep kid activities fun and easy for everyone. We found a red, yellow, and blue piñata and decorated it to match our Superman party theme using the Superman Party Printables.
We started out our Piñata activities by blindfolding each child and gently turning them three times before allowing them to strike out at the Piñata. Each child got three tries. We wanted to give every child a chance at reaching the Superman Piñata.
Once all the kids had a chance to try and break the Piñata blindfolded, we removed the blindfold and every child guest at the party had a chance to break the Superman Piñata with three hits. The Piñata turned out to be very strong. We had to bring our Daddy Superman to give the Piñata the breaking blow. Once broken we spilled out all the candy and the kids had blast collecting their candy prizes.
Superhero Theme: Superman Chocolate Cake
I practiced with nine cakes before I perfected the chocolate cake I baked for my son’s 5th birthday. If you need a delicious chocloate cake recipe and all the recipe adjustments to bake the same cake at various altitudes – you’ll want to check out my High Altitude Chocolate Cake recipe. The recipe includes the right mix for “at sea level” baking as well as all the adjustments needed to bake at altitude.
I used the Superman Silicone Mold to make the “S” in the yellow Superman belt of the cake.
Here our boys are diving right into the cake as soon as our eldest blew out the candle on his 5-Year-Old Superman Birthday Party Cake.
A great Party for Family and Friends
My son loved getting to celebrate his fifth birthday with all his preschool friends. We’re so thankful for all the wonderful friends and family who made it to the party!
I loved how all of the children gathered around to watch the birthday boy open gifts.
Superman Costume
The same week of the party, the boys got to celebrate Superhero day! We dressed up in these awesome Superman Costumes from Birthday Express. Even the “S” on the chest lights up! We love, love, love playing dress up and the costumes from Birthday Express are high quality and withstand tons of play.
