An Easy Teaching Printable
There’s more than meets the eye going on with this Teaching Children to Tell Time printable set. Teaching young to manage their time is an all-important life skill! One of the things I really want to help my kids understand is how to tell time. We use a count-down method to ease them into transitions. For instance, a half hour before bed time we’ll say, “Almost Bedtime.” Five minutes before bedtime we’ll even go so far as to set the kitchen timer on the microwave for five minutes and tell our kids, “Five minutes till bedtime.” So far, counting down like this has reduced melt-downs and helped introduce our kids to the concept of telling time.
Customize Your Timepiece
This printable set includes both digital and blank face clocks. The printable worksheets include major time denominations like 12:00 noon, etc. You can even cut out some clock hands and turn them on the clock face if you like. There are blank templates, you can laminate these sheets and use a vis-a-vis marker to write and wipe off the clock hands or you can print multiple copies and let your little one draw clock hands of their own. The possibilities are endless.
Coordinating Printables and a Toy Clock
This set of printables can easily be used with the Melissa and Doug Shape Sorting Clock. I wanted to present to my kids more than just a set of printable worksheets, I wanted them to have something tangible to hold, touch and play with. If you’d like to order one, just click the image below. The Melissa and Doug Shape Sorting Clock is a timeless wooden keepsake that has a certain charm you can’t get from plastic toys.
Teach Preschoolers about Colors and Shapes
The Shape Sorting Clock and Shapes, Colors and Numbers Matching Game are such a great way to reinforce the numbers on the clock AND teach preschoolers about colors and shapes. To create the cards you see in the morning board picture, I printed the pdf file, cut the boxes, laminated the boxes and then cut them again. They are posted onto our morning board using blue tack. My son loves to play with the cards. I’ve also found them to be a great tool to help keep him focused on the clock and learning shapes.
