Thankful

I’m also incredibly thankful for our extended family – some right here in town and others who are 1500 miles away.  Our lives are enriched by the love and support of our children’s grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and our entire family.  We love you all and pray you have a blessed Thanksgiving.

We’re going to take a short break from the alphabet and work on a few seasonal projects.  I’ve attached a free pattern for one of those projects here – Thankful Turkey.

I designed it so you can customize this craft any way you like.  The body of Mr. Turkey  is separate so that you can create your own feathers.  You can glue actual feathers, you can make “feathers” out of your children’s handprints, or you can use the feathers designed to go with Mr. Turkey on the attached file.  For the first version pictured here I used two different colors of card stock – one for the feathers (tan) and one for the body (brown).  To make the face multicolored I cut a face out in white and then colored it with markers in red, blue and orange. There is room on the feathers to write what you are thankful for in a sundial fashion, or you can let your child color or draw on the feathers any way he or she wishes.  It’s a great way to talk about what Thanksgiving is all about – being thankful for all the Lord has given us.  To complete the project I glued the pieces together and cut a half moon out of the dark brown card stock to anchor Mr. Turkey between his feet.  It’s large enough to make a centerpiece and very inexpensive to make.

Speaking of things to be thankful for, I can’t help but include more pictures of my beloved boys.  Peanut loves to glue, color and paint so this is a great project for him.
